ADC2 & Wi-Fi Mutual Exclusion

When Wi-Fi is active, all ADC2 pins (GPIO 0, 2, 4, 12-15, 25-27) fail or return 0! Always prioritize ADC1 (GPIO 32-39) for analog readings.

⬇️
Input-Only Pins (GPI 34~39)

GPIO 34, 35, 36, 39 lack internal pull-up/pull-down resistors and cannot output. External pull-ups are mandatory for push buttons.

GPIO12 Boot Voltage Trap

On classic ESP32, pulling GPIO12 high during boot switches flash voltage to 1.8V, triggering instant brownout crash loops!

Hardware Gotchas & Common Errors

A curated encyclopedia of hardware pitfalls, voltage drops, and crash solutions compiled by makers.

⚡ Error: A fatal error occurred: Failed to connect to ESP32: Timed out waiting for packet header ▼
Root cause:The ESP32 has not entered Bootloader download mode, or the auto-download transistor circuit has insufficient delay.
Standard fix:Hold the onboard BOOT button, click Flash, and release once the terminal prints Connecting dots. If it still fails, solder a 100nF ceramic cap between EN and GND to absorb reset glitches.
🔥 Error: Brownout detector was triggered (repeated power resets) ▼
Root cause:When Wi-Fi/BLE radio starts, transient current spikes above 450mA. Thin low-quality USB cable resistance drops voltage below 2.4V instantly.
Standard fix:1. Use a thicker quality data cable; 2. Solder a 47μF–100μF tantalum or low-ESR electrolytic cap between the 3.3V and GND pads close to the board — this permanently fixes it.
🔌 Pitfall: board gets no power from a C-to-C cable on Mac or PD chargers ▼
Root cause:Many cheap boards omit the two 5.1kΩ pull-downs on the Type-C CC1/CC2 pins. E-Marker C-to-C cables detect no sink and refuse to supply 5V!
Standard fix:Simply use a traditional USB-A to Type-C cable for power and flashing.
